Volunteers donned their uniforms and joined forces to conduct a spring-clean of the Grand Union canal tow path near the Ballot Box bridge by Horsenden Hill farm.

Steve Haskett recorded the day and told us:

''The Canal and River trust had been asked by Horsenden Hill's Wood Craftsman Tom Bickerdike, who often moors his boat on that section, if they would support a volunteer litter picking day and they duly arrived with bags, gloves and picking sticks plus a working barge to collect the rubbish and take it away.

Over 20 people turned up and filled many bags and also found various miscellaneous rubbish including gas bottles, old chairs, a mattress and used needles, which were very carefully collected in a special box!

Litter was carefully divided into recycling and general waste.

''It was a glorious sunny spring day and a good, productive, satisfying time was had by all.''
