Ealing Law Centre's celebrated six years of supporting the community in Ealing.

Over the last six years the centre, based at Northfield Avenue, which aims to provide free advice, has handled more than 4300 cases – helping people to stay in their homes, obtain the welfare benefits they are entitled to and resolve their complex immigration problems. Clients are often at crisis point when they arrive and staff use their iinnovative `Crisis Navigator` to steer them through the complexity of their problems.

Luly Perez told the packed audience that now her immigration status was resolved she had finally been able to sleep at night, but, after her husband died, she found herself back at the law centre asking for help when her landlord tried to evict her.

The celebrations were joined by over 50 supporters including MPs Rupa Huq, Ruth Cadbury and Virendra Sharma, community partners and clients.

The  centre's new Patron Professor Dame Hazel Genn, professor of socio-legal studies at University College London also joined the event.

She said: ‘As an Ealing Resident of many years I was delighted to be asked to be a Patron of the Law Centre. I want to congratulate the Law Centre for its work so far in such a challenging environment and look forward to playing a role in its future development'

The centre say there are still huge challenges ahead in Ealing. Almost a third of residents live in poverty and they currently respond to more than 1200 enquiries per year from people with housing, welfare benefit, immigration and citizenship issues.
