On their Facebook page police posted:

''On Wednesday 18th October Ealing Police and Ealing Council became aware that the far-right speaker Marian Kowalski intended to address an audience at Kuznia Smaku, 175 South Ealing Road on Saturday 21st October between 4pm – 6pm.

''Mr Kowalski was intending to preach messages of a homophobic, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic nature and as such both the police and the council have been working in partnership to prevent the event from taking place.

''Officers from Ealing Licensing Team approached the venue who agreed to cancel the event, however as a precaution Ealing ASB Team have obtained a Superintendent’ s authority to issue a ‘Premises Closure Notice’ effective from midday on Saturday 21st October. The notice issued under Part 4, Chapter 3 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 gives the authority to close the premises for 48 hours if there is anticipated disorder near to or associated with those premises.

''This power will be reviewed over the weekend and a decision to apply to the Court on Monday for an extension will be perused if necessary.

''Partnership Chief Inspector Ricky Kandohla said, ‘This week our officers have been out engaging communities in Ealing to raise awareness of hate crime. This intended event challenges all of the hard work we have done this week.’

‘Upon receiving information about this event Ealing Police have worked with our partners and used available legislation effectively to send a clear message that preaching hate is not acceptable in Ealing.’

''If you have been a victim of hate crime you can report it to the police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, you can report hate crime through ‘True Vision’.''

We asked for a statement from Ealing Council who told us it was a police matter, we have contacted Kuznia Smaku and are awaiting a response regarding the closure.
