Former Blue Peter presenter announces engagement

Ealing's Konnie Huq is to marry Screenwipe presenter Charlie Brooker.

The former Notting Hill and Ealing High pupil and long serving Blue Peter presenter is the new host of The Xtra Factor. She has been dating Brooker, 39, for some time.

Huq, 34, recently said that she was in a relationship with a TV screenwriter called Charlie and that "he is definitely a keeper".

The presenter added that her life was on hold while she was on Blue Peter and now she needed "to get a move on".

Brooker is best known on screen for his satirical critiques of the the media. He also wrote Dead Set, a zombie horror which takes place on the set of Big Brother, and is a columnist for The Guardian newspaper.

Brooker's BBC Four show Newswipe was nominated for best entertainment programme at the Bafta TV Awards at the weekend, but lost out to Britain's Got Talent.

No further details of their plans to marry have been revealed.
