A music festival held under the M4 at Boston Manor Park has been given the go ahead for 2 nights - with the first one is aimed at an 'older' audience.

Ward Councillor for Northfields, David Millican, has been representing residents to try and ensure there won't be the problems associated with last year's festival.

He reports below:

You will recall that in 2017, Ealing residents were not notified of the Festival in advance, the sound testing started before 8:00am, and the loud travelled a great distance.

Hence I initiated a meeting, held in October and have now initiated a second meeting, to ensure there was plenty of time for organisers to commit to mitigation actions. So on Friday I met with the event organisers, along with Councillors representing Brentford residents, Hounslow Council Parks and Licensing Officers and representatives of the company managing the park (currently Carillion, but soon to be in-house Hounslow Council)

Hounslow Council have approved the Festival for 2018 and it will be held, with an extra event on the evening of Friday 8 June with sound testing from 6:00pm to start at 8:00pm, finish by 10:30pm; then the main event on Saturday 9 June with sound testing later from 10:00am, with the event to start at 12noon, finish by 10:30pm.

Apparently the Friday event will attract an older audience, hence ostensibly quieter, than for the main event on the Saturday

The event organisers have agreed:

  • To mitigate the noise, the direction of the music and stages will be changed, such that the music will be fired in the direction of the industrial estates, across the canal, ie towards Sky and the Gillette site, and not towards Ealing, as last year
  • The volume will be reduced
  • Volume to be monitored
  • There will be two telephone numbers to ring on the day to report concerns and gain action
  • Better security, with different teams inside the events, to those outside
  • Security staff stationed as far as the shops on Boston Parade
  • Better clear-up of litter after the event
  • Extra toilets
  • Single lane of Boston Manor Road closed from 9:00pm on the Saturday from Great West Road up to Swyncombe Avenue to facilitate smoother egress
  • Stewards to be on duty until 2:00am along the routes to Brentford Station, Boston Manor Station and Northfields Station
  • To distribute a detailed letter, two weeks before the event, to those as far as the North Circular and North of the Uxbridge Road, ie to all those in Northfields and Elthorne Wards and beyond

Now that Hounslow Council have given their permission for the event to proceed, my main responsibility, as one of your Councillors, is that noise is reduced and that the  anti-social behaviour and mis-behaviour is reduced, managed and contained, as well as possible.

If you have other questions I can gladly forward them to Hounslow Council officers or the event organisers to respond.
