New Traffic Proposals at Dangerous Junction

TfL want a right turn ban from A4 onto Windmill Road

Transport For London (TfL) has responded to local residents concerns and are planning changes at a notorious road junction.

Concerns have increased following a number of recent accidents at the busy A4 intersection at the end of Windmill Road and a petition was set up calling for urgent action.

The area - underneath the M4 flyover - features a small yellow box junction, traffic lights and a number of pedestrian crossings.

Currently traffic can turn both left from the A4 Eastbound onto Windmill Road (towards Ealing) as well as right from the A4 (under the flyover towards Brentford), but TfL are proposing to ban drivers turning right and installing a toucan (signalised pedestrian and cyclist) crossing on the south side of the Windmill Road / A4 junction.

The proposals:

  • Installing a right turn ban, from the A4 eastbound into Windmill Road.
  • Creating shared areas for pedestrians and cyclists around the crossing points.
  • Adjusting the kerb lines and installing a new traffic island to encourage correct lane use.
  • Install two additional traffic signals to help increase driver awareness of the A4 crossings.
  • Improving the lighting at the two A4 crossing points (under the M4) to enhance the environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

TfL say they would also upgrade the junction’s existing signal equipment

TfL say they expect the right-turn ban to increase safety at the junction by reducing the number of potential collisions.

They want to hear local views on the plans and the consultation and online survey will be open until 14th February.
