Ealing Hanger Hill Councillor, Joy Morrissey, has declared herself as candidate for the Conservatives in the race to become next London Mayor.

The election won't take place until May 2020 but the parties are currently beginning their campaigns to find the right person aiming to take the position currently held by Labour's Sadiq Khan.

Ms Morrissey stood in the last general election ( 2017) as the Conservative candidate for the seat of Ealing Central and Acton. She got 19,230 votes ( 34.7%) losing out to Labour's Rupa Huq who massively increased her majority with 33,037 (59.7%).

The former Hollywood actress has lived in Ealing over nine years with her husband and daughter.
She's speaks Chinese & Albanian, has worked as shadow portfolio holder for health and adult social service, as well as being a parliamentary staffer for MP Will Quince.

Ms Morrissey worked on the South Acton Estate and was the first Conservative elected by the residents to the Acton Vale Estate Management committee.

She says she is hoping to secure the Conservative Mayoral candidacy for London and will be prioritising, housing, tackling crime, transport and the environment in her campaign.

It's believed more than two dozen Tories are understood to have applied for the nomination, with the majority from local government. The list will be whittled down to three or four next month with the final shortlist going to a vote of London members.

The successful candidate will be presented to party conference which runs from 30 September.
