An Ealing Art shop is hosting an exhibition of prints by Jess Wilson.

For Arts sake is delighted to announce that Jess has produced a new Limited Edition Linocut print, to be released at the opening of her exhibition, featuring a map of names and places well known and loved by the people of Ealing.

Jess Wilson says:

“The way I work on my road maps is to get a copy of the A-Z so I can see where the roads lay and then look at the same area on google maps and include places like shops, Council buildings, arcades and food outlets. Also I have lived in London for 10 years now so I put any places I enjoy or go to on the maps.

My work has become quite graphic and neat but I tend to screen print the words, which allows me to bring out textures and makes it more than a nice drawing. I love working with maps as it allows me to learn about the world whilst I have fun presenting the information to others.”

Jess Wilson’s work takes images from popular culture, books, typography, films, songs and celebrities. Her handwritten words and delicious colours appear to be completely spontaneous and playfully executed. Since For Arts Sake first showed Jess Wilson’s work in 2012 they have proved to be very popular and we are delighted to welcome her back to Ealing.

‘Jess makes fantastically engaging images with whatever materials she can get her hands on. Her work is full of energy and joy and we’re delighted to be showing them in our gallery’ said Brian Davis, owner of For Arts Sake. ‘We are particularly delighted to be launching a new illustrated map by Jess featuring Ealing street names.’

On the 5th November between 2pm and 5pm Jess Wilson will be spending the afternoon at For Arts Sake gallery and will be available to chat about her work and inspiration.
