A painting of Hanwell Locks has been shortlisted for a national competition to find a picture that best reflects Britain.

Jessica Rose’s watercolour of the Grand Union Canal by Hanwell Locks, called Swans at Sunrise, is one of five entries selected by furnishings retailer Dunelm Mill for its “Best of British” Artistic Impressions contest.

The other finalists are Sara Austin, Linda Pasifull, Jane Hirst and Courtney Craik.

A winner will be chosen by a vote, which can be cast by following this link

Voting closes on 17 September and the winning entry will be featured in Dunelm Mill stores.

Miss Rose, aged 40, who lives in Mount Ave in Ealing, is a painter and printmaker and has worked full-time as an artist for several years after leaving behind a career in journalism.

She has exhibited with the Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries in London and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Miss Rose also undertakes many commissions and has recently finished one for the Brentford stately home Syon House.
