Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of West Ealing once again to watch one of the biggest events of the year.

The Hindu chariot festival honours the Hindu god of war Murugan's victory over a demon using a special 'vel' spear, many involved carrying pots of milk on their heads or have piercings as a show of devotion.

It starts from the Shri Kanaga Thurkkai Amman Temple in West Ealing proceeds along the Uxbridge Road, the area will be filled with both pilgrims and spectators enjoying the colourful show.


It will take place this year on Sunday 12 August and there will be road closures and diversions in operation.

Chapel Road: entire length, between its junctions with Uxbridge Road and Mattock Lane.

Uxbridge Road: partial closure that affects west bound bus lane section only

Culmington Road: between the southern kerb line of Uxbridge Road and the southern kerb line of Mattock Lane.

Mattock Lane: between the western kerb line of Culmington Road and the eastern kerb line of Northfield Avenue.

Tawny Close: Entire length

West bound BUS LANE closure between 7am and 4pm

Uxbridge Road: between the western kerb line of Culmington Road and the eastern kerb

line of Northfield Avenue.
