Anger Over 22 Storey Building Plans For Perivale

Objections over proposals for high rise block behind the iconic Hoover building

Residents in Perivale are being urged to attend a ward forum meeting this week (7 March) to discuss growing concerns over plans for a 22 storey tower behind the iconic Hoover building.

Tesco Perivale sold the petrol station at the rear of the site and Amro Living, HTA Design and GL Hearn are now proposing to build the high rise development.

Locals say the proposed building is ''far too high and not at all in keeping with the local residential housing which is mostly 1930's semi detached houses.''

They believe the  iconic Hoover building - Grade II* listed  and art deco will have its appearance ruined with such a huge tower block behind it. 

A petition has been set up urging Ealing Council stop the overdevelopment and nearly 1000 have already signed.

Andriana Blunstone who is part of the residents action group trying to fight the proposals says, ''The local residential community in Perivale living near the Hoover Building as well as nearby businesses also stand to be devastated by the high rise development, plans by developer Amro. 

''Perivale, a low rise residential suburb of West London, will not only face its low-rise suburban character being destroyed, but it's local infrastructure and resources under intense pressure. There is only one access way in and out of the proposed 500 home Amro development site, which is already congested, serving a Tesco superstore, Royal Nawaab restaurant and banqueting hall and now also the residential occupants of the Hoover Building which was recently converted internally into flats. Local residents are set to be overwhelmed with no parking on already congested roads.''

A ward forum meeting to discuss the concerns will be held at Perivale Community Centre on Thursday 7 March at 7pm.

An Ealing Council spokesperson said: ''A planning application has not been submitted for consideration. The proposals for the development of the site behind the Hoover building are being discussed with the developer as part of a pre-application process. As part of the pre-application process, the applicant/developers will undertake a public consultation. Any proposal will be assessed against the national and local planning policy and legislation.”
