Harpreet Kaur Bains in Queen's Birthday Honours List A 30-year-old woman who volunteers at a Southall food kitchen has received a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Harpreet Kaur Bains was helped with the langar seva of the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara. Langar seva is a term used for a canteen or kitchen in which food is given out for free to anyone regardless or race The outreach project provided invaluable support to the community and, along with a wider team, Harpreet launched and operated a helpline and helped deliver thousands of meals to the most vulnerable. She said, “I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to do seva and help the community during the most difficult times.” Harmeet Singh Gill, General Secretary of Singh Sabha said, “It’s great to see our volunteers, especially the youth, being recognised for the amazing community work they do.” Other people honoured locally include Pamela Ullstein who received an OBE. She is a JP Magistrate Ealing Bench, Chair of the Greater London Family Panel, and Project Leader Your Life You Choose, Ealing. She was give the award for services to the Administration of Justice and to Young People.
