Four ball hockey players from Ealing have been selected for the British Hockey team that will play in the World Championships next year.

All players are from the Ealing Eagles of the West London Ball Hockey Club.

The World U16 Ball Hockey Championships will be held in Zlin and Prerov Czech Republic and the U18 and U20 World Championship will be held in St. John’s Newfoundland in Canada.

Alister Rae was selected to both the U16 and U18 squads and thus will play in both Czech Rep and Canada. He has participated in 4 Team GB tours to Eastern Europe in the last three years. He is the leading scorer from these tours having scored 11 goals including in a penalty shootout one to defeat the powerful Slovak national team last July.

Dominic Rae also from the Ealing Eagles has made the U16 as an underage player. This is largely on the strength of his play in the junior Nationals and on his play in 3 Team GB tours of Eastern Europe. In April of this past year he backstopped the U15 GB team including stopping all 5 penalty shootout shots against a powerful Slovak Club team. Later on in the summer he represented the U17 squad, at the age of 12, against friendly matches vs the Slovak national team and achieved the team award of having ‘most exceeded expectations’.

Joe Richardson also was selected to the U16s. This will be his first time representing the UK internationally. In Tournament play last year he was second in scoring for Ealing Eagles with 7 goals and three assists. He also added 7 goals last season playing in the West London Junior Ball Hockey league.

Jessica Rae was selected to the Women’s U20 team. She has played ball hockey for 9 years and is a defenseman. In tryouts she was a steady defender making few mistakes and showed good positional play. She was also praised by the team coaches for her effort, enthusiasm and attitude.

If any one (male or female) is interested in joining the West London Ball Hockey Club (all levels of play including beginners are welcome and all equipment is provided) then please contact andrewnicky@btinternet.com or call/text 07786-111056 or simply come to Elthorne Sports Centre on a Saturday morning at 10:15am to the outdoor MUGAs.
