Airport Proposals: Why No Ealing Consultation? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dave Robins from campaign group HACAN writes:
Below is a list of exhibitions that Heathrow Ltd are holding as part of their consultation process over their proposals for a third runway. You will note that Ealing is not included even though it would be under the projected flightpath.
Ealing Council did little to oppose a third runway during the last battle and was the only borough between Windsor and Wandsworth not to be involved in the legal challenge that stopped it. It seems that the current council are also following a line of least resistance. Their representatives have ceased coming to the numerous meetings that are being held to oppose Heathrow expansion. The only thing they have done of note lately is to produce a report with Slough and Hounslow on the effects on the local economy if Heathrow were to close in the event of Boris Island going ahead. How much money has been wasted on what is a red herring. Ealing Council must realise that Boris Island is a fantasy and that the airport will never close. Scaremongering over its future is of course an integral part of the Back Heathrow campaign. Why is it that Ealing Council have not produced a report on the devastating effects a third runway would have on the borough and why have they not insisted that Heathrow Ltd properly consult with its residents over this? The Council is opposed to the third runway isn't it? Dave Robins, HACAN We have asked for comment from Ealing's cabinet member Cllr Bassam Mahfouz 13th February 2014 |
