Children from The King Fahad Academy will learn how to deliver vital life-saving skills in a life-threatening emergency thanks to a new education programme.

School children between the ages of 7 and 11 years will learn Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills to equip them with knowledge and actions that could save a life – joining over 2.6 million people in the UK who have already been trained as part of the initiative – with further sessions planned for the group later in the year.

British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Heartstart programme is a free initiative that teaches people what to do in a life-threatening emergency – simple skills that save lives. The training for the school comes as the BHF and Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) are calling for all children to leave school knowing how to save a life.

In Ealing 6 schools have signed up to learn ELS as part of the Heartstart initiative to date and the nation’s heart charity has invested in training manikins and teaching materials, to enable trained Heartstart instructors to effectively deliver the programme.

Aziza Mirza, Heartstart Coordinator at The King Fahad Academy said: “Heartstart is a fantastic initiative teaching life saving skills. It is important that younger members of the community understand how to deliver ELS in a life-threatening emergency. This type of training enables schools and groups to join in the fight for every heartbeat and make a difference by taking part in this initiative.
