Tha London Mayor is supporting a project to help regenerate the Havelock estate in Ealing.

The Mayor’s ‘Good Growth Fund’ is contributing 50% (£500,000)) of the total cost for the project -‘Open Havelock’, which will transform 36 redundant garages and 2000 sqm of unused space in Southall.

It will help create a range of 'meanwhile-use' projects that aim to deliver community benefit while the estate regeneration is carried out.
Initiatives include creating a base for The Sharks Canoe Club, an environmental improvement hub, a children’s secret garden, and a mobile canteen.

Open Havelock is run in partnership with Catalyst and London Borough of Ealing, along with Canal & River Trust, The Sharks Canoe Club and Westplay Play Association.

Sahil Khan, Director of Community Investment said: “Meanwhile uses are such an important way of investing in the existing community whilst you are carrying out a regeneration project. This funding is crucial for Catalyst to be able to turn an unused area of the Havelock estate in to a destination with real community focus. We are very pleased that the Mayor also sees the potential in this project, and we are looking forward to getting the spaces up and running.”

Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, said: “The Mayor and I are committed to doing all we can to support projects which create opportunities to regenerate their local areas. This is a great example of how Londoners can take a lead in shaping the future of the capital.”

The Good Growth Fund is the Mayor of London’s biggest regeneration fund and is delivered through the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP). Launched in June 2017, it provides more than £75 million of capital funding from sources including the Local Growth Fund and European Social Fund, as well as expert regeneration advice, design support and knowledge sharing.
