Residents in Hanwell fed up of increasing anti-social behaviour in the area have been told they must report things through 'the correct channels'.

Various social media groups have been set up through the Facebook and Twitter platforms and photographs of individuals have been posted alongside allegations relating to criminal activity.

Locals began doing this in increasing numbers after becoming frustrated with the police and council over the activity - largely around clock tower, but also other parts of W7, and what they saw as a slow response from the authorities..

Ealing Council has now issued a statement in an attempt to placate the W7 neighbours and to persuade them from posting crime reports online.

The council says it is working closely with the police and collaborating with third sector partners, including rough sleeping outreach service, drug and alcohol intervention services and housing services.

They say 'For incidents to be dealt with properly they need to be reported in the right way.'

They urge residents to use the following contact information:

Call 999 - if someone is in immediate danger or you witness a crime

Call 101 - if you witness anti-social behaviour and for non-emergencies

Call 020 7161 9175 - Elthorne safer network team

Contact street link - for someone who is homeless and needs assistance

Contact the council - to report fly tipping

Attend a ward forum meeting - where the safer communities team and local councillors will be in attendance.

The police have increased patrols in the last few weeks in the area so residents will notice an increase in patrols. There have currently been two prosecutions from incidents in the area.

Cllr Camadoo, cabinet member for community safety and inclusion said:“Just to underline how important reporting is – it will provide the basis for the police and the council being able to take effective longer term action against those driving anti-social behaviour.

"Thank you for you support in helping to address anti-social behaviour in the area."
