The Brent Lodge Park Animal Centre at Hanwell's Bunny Park is undergoing some major changes and from April visitors will, for the first time, have to pay.

Adults will be charged £2.50, £1 for children aged from three-16-years-old, and those under three will go for free. Season tickets will be available costing £15 per year (£10 concessions).

The new fee structure will be reviewed after a year and is being introduced in a bid to keep the popular centre running.

As well as the charges there are other changes planned. It's to be renamed 'Hanwell Zoo' and will house an increased range of animals including flamingos, small monkeys and rodents. There will also be a new zoo entrance and more toilets and play facilities for children.

Ealing Cabinet member for Environment, Transport & Leisure,  Councillor Bassam Mahfouz said:

"I am delighted that we are absolutely committed to creating Ealing’s first zoo building on the success of drawing in fantastic animals such as Meerkats, Lemurs and Bearded Dragons.

''We’re committed to investing more and bringing in even more animals to have an incredibly enticing offer at our newly rebranded Hanwell Zoo.

''It’s a much loved facility and a real gem to have in the heart of our borough.  The new incredibly modest charges will allow us to ensure the animals continue to be well looked after, improve the offer for families to enjoy and learn and secure its future for future generations.  There will continue to be a section which is free to access and we are looking at modest annual memberships which would allow local regulars to enjoy the exciting new facilities and animals all year round."
