Families in Ealing will have the chance to improve their swimming at a free coaching session hosted by double Olympian and GLL Sports Foundation Athlete Ekaterina Avramova.

The event, will celebrate the huge success of Gurnell’s junior swim programme, which hit the 4,000 participant mark earlier this month.

Classes are open to children aged 7 with parents and guardians to adults. Ekaterina will run a series of 30 minute masterclasses, tailored to the groups ability.  Activities will include fun exercises, advice on technique and performance improving tips.  She’ll also share some of her personal experiences competing at the Olympics, World and European championships.  On completing the masterclass participants will be able to enjoy a photo opportunity and further free leisure swim session.

A member of Ealing Swim Club Ekaterina competes at the very highest level in swimming. She is a European Championship Finalist, World Championship Semi-finalist and Double Olympian (London 2012 & Rio 2016).  She is also supported by the GLL Sport Foundation.

Ekaterina Avramova, comments: ‘I train at Gurnell Leisure Centre and I’m delighted they now have so many swimmers on their junior swim programme.  I’m thankful to the GLL Sports Foundation for the support it offers me. This is my chance to give a little back and hopefully share some of my experience with the local community.’

Maximilian Goodchild from Better’s Gurnell Leisure Centre said: On the 19th September our swim school programme reached 4,013 weekly participants. Over the past two years staff here have been working towards implementing project ‘Gurnell4000’ and we’re delighted to have reached our target.

“As a team we are committed to battling inactivity and ensuring that the children in the local community possess the essential aquatic skills needed to be confident, competent and safe in the water.”
