Work has started to imrove the A4127 Greenford Road.

The scheme, is part of TfL's ‘Healthier Streets’ initiative
and Ealing will work alongside Harrow Council in an attempt to make the local area safer and more attractive for walking, cycling and using public transport.

The aim is to improve traffic flow, parking restrictions, create better facilities for cyclists and new places to stop. New trees will also be planted to provide shade, shelter and greenery. Other improvements include enhanced lighting, a safer road environment and new improved footways.

The plans will also see the introduction of step free access to Sudbury Hill Harrow Station from both sides of the street. Works on the two railway bridges are also earmarked, subject to agreement from London Underground and Network Rail.

During this period there will be speed restrictions in place on the high road and the councils are therefore asking for road users’ patience while the upgrades take place.

Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for environment transport and leisure said: “The council is working in partnership with Harrow and TfL to make these significant upgrades. There is a range of improvements planned that will make Greenford Road and Sudbury Hill High Street safer and more attractive places for local people. The changes will also see a boost for the local economy and the vibrant local high street.

“The council is committed to working proactively with local businesses and residents to minimise any disruption during the period of development.”

Cllr Graham Henson, Harrow Council’s cabinet member for environment, crime and community safety said: “We welcome this much needed upgrade which will bring many benefits for both our residents and businesses in the area– this includes improvements to both transport networks and the environment.

“Our joint partnership with Ealing Council and TfL will help to keep both boroughs moving, make the area a more vibrant and attractive place to live and work, whilst also encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport for healthier living.”

The scheme is due for completion in December.
