What's thought to be one of the biggest private rental scheme's in the UK is to be built in Greenford.

South Carolina based Greystar has bought the 26.5 acre site, formerly home to GSK and J Lyons & Co for an undisclosed price and has submitted an application to Ealing Council for The application is for 1,965 new homes – comprising studios, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments across seven main buildings.

The planning application outlines extensive areas of public open space and new connections through Greenford, including the reopening of Berkeley Avenue and the creation of a new pedestrian bridge over the Grand Union Canal. The historic Glaxo House building will be refurbished to restore its status as a landmark office building on Greenford Road.

Residents had raised concerns about the scale of the development and after consultation the tallest building has now been reduced from 24 storeys to 19 and land will be allocated for a school and a health centre.

Mark Allnutt, Managing Director of Investments at Greystar, said:

“This development is great news for people looking for a better renting experience in Ealing. Our investment will provide new, well-managed homes for local people, create jobs, provide high-quality public realm and contribute to the regeneration of Greenford. The planning application follows extensive community consultation and many conversations with Greenford residents. Feedback from local people has helped us improve our ideas for the site and we’ve made some significant changes to our initial plans.”

If approved, Greystar hope to start building work next year.
