Work has begun on replacing a gas pipe that stretches along the busy South Ealing Road.

The road has seen numerous problems over the last few years caused by emergency utility works. It's hoped this major gas renewal will see an end to the seemingly endless roadworks.

This large scale operation has been started during the school holidays in an attempt to avoid too much disruption, nevertheless local roads have become noticeably busier at peak times as drivers try to avoid the traffic light delays on the main road.

Cadent, (formerly, National Grid) has sent the following information:

We are carrying out the works in phases in order to minimise the disruption to traffic and bus services along the road and are liaising with Transport for London in order to consider viable options for temporary bus stops.

The first phase, from Monday 29th July to early September, is the most significant as it requires additional traffic light phasing at the Popes Lane junction. We then continue to work north towards Church Lane.

We do understand that these essential works may affect you and we are doing all we can to minimise the disruption. We have planned the work with Ealing Council and Transport for London (TfL) to reduce the impact of our works. We will continue to work with these local authorities to manage the impact throughout the programme.

Our gas mains replacement programme is crucial to providing safe and reliable energy to homes and businesses and will reduce the amount of unplanned work to repair ageing gas pipes.

Initially we will be replacing the low pressure gas pipes as Cadent has had to carry out numerous emergency works in the past.

This phase of work is set to be completed by December 2019. We will then come back at the beginning of 2020 to replace the medium pressure gas pipes. In order to maintain traffic flow on South Ealing Lane and to ensure that there is minimal disruption to gas supplies, we are unable to carry out all the works at the same time.
