National sports charity ‘Tennis For Free’ is offering tennis lessons for free at Elthorne Park.

The charity along with Ealing Council, local professional tennis coach Matt Cattaway and the LTA will provide free coach led tennis sessions for all the family starting on Saturday 3rd October between 1-3pm.

You don’t even need a racket as all equipment is provided free of charge.

Matt Cattaway will be managing the scheme said:

“I am really happy to be involved with this brand new project. The courts in Elthorne Park have been underused in the past but I hope to be able to provide the community opportunities to become more active through playing tennis.''

Started in 2004 and celebrating a decade of getting over 150,000 people to hit tennis balls for free, Tennis For Free is a registered charity founded by comedian Tony Hawks. It aims to provide healthy, vibrant tennis communities on FREE public park tennis courts creating new tennis players of all ages and backgrounds, and showing that tennis can be enjoyed by all. Tennis For Free supporters include Judy Murray (mother of GB No1 Andy, Federation Cup Captain and ex Strictly star), BBC tennis commentator Andrew Castle and ex Grand Slam winner Pat Cash.

Tennis For Free CEO, Paul Jessop said: “Having started as a website listing free parks tennis we now have an extensive free tennis programme across the UK.''

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member of transport, environment and leisure, said:

"Despite having the world's premier tennis tournament down the road, we had to wait over 70 years to see another British winner of Wimbledon. Tennis is fun, easy to get to grips with and keeps you active: a game for all ages and this offer to learn and play for free is an ace opportunity not to be missed. Our parks are a perfect place to get together, have fun and learn new sports - so get involved and enjoy the benefits from this weekend."
