Ealing born and based Mosaic Artist Rosanna Henderson has been donating a percentage of all her sales to the Ealing Foodbank since the start of the pandemic.

She says that she has always been very involved with charitable and voluntary organisations in her past professional and personal life so thought it would be a good idea to extend this to her artistic work.

The Ealing Foodbank, based at St. Mellitus Church in Hanwell, is a a much needed resource in the Borough. It has up to 150 volunteers who are based in the warehouse sorting the donated food, as well drivers who help collect and move the food, and those who see clients face to face in the centres.

From April to September this year alone they provided meals to 15,542 people – if you break that down to 3 meals per day for 3 days that totals a staggering 139,878 meals.

Earlier this month Rosanna visited the Foodbank and met Janet Fletcher, Ealing Foodbank Manager, and her Team to learn more about the incredible work the Foodbank does.

Rosanna says, “Like most people, I am aware of Foodbanks and appreciate they provide a much-needed service to the community. However, it was when Janet started giving me figures and stats that it became over whelming and the realisation of the issues and needs involved hit me.”

Janet says she is really grateful to people like Rosanna who are helping by giving a percentage of their sales, along with all those others who donate food and toiletries, time and money and come up with very creative ways to help. These include people who have not been able to take that holiday so donated the money instead, children who do Lemonade Sales outside their house, and a musician who organised outdoor concerts during lockdown. The need is increasing as the cost of living has gone up and the value of benefits has gone down. The £20 uplift being removed from Universal Credit is expected to have a huge impact on those who are already on very tight budgets.

Although they obviously provide much needed food to those in need, the actual aim of the Foodbank is to help people not to have to use the foodbank and they work alongside various organisations who can provide that support.

Rosanna will continue to support the Foodbank through her mosaic sales. So if you are looking for a personalised present, or a piece of art for your home or garden, by commissioning Rosanna you will be helping Ealing Foodbank. You can see more of her work on Instagram and Facebook @Rosannasmosaics, contact her on 07961 134033 or she sells her work in the Curated Collective shop in Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
