Fined For Fly-Tipping

Local businesses admitted dumping rubbish on road

Three Southall businesses have been ordered to pay more than £3,400 in fines and costs after pleading guilty to fly-tipping offences.

The trio appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 3 July 2014 and each admitted to illegally dumping rubbish on the public highway on Lady Margaret Road, despite warnings and advice from Ealing Council.
The offences all occurred in Lady Margaret Road, Southall in October and November 2013. The businesses were sentenced as follows:

- Ariana Launderette, 430 Lady Margaret Road, was ordered to pay a total of £1184.52, including a £350 fine, £799.52 in costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

- Mya’s Hair Salon, 432 Lady Margaret Road, was ordered to pay a total of £1158.92, including a £350 fine, £773.92 in costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

- A dry cleaners located at 434 Lady Margaret Road, formally known as Le Valet, was ordered to pay a total of £1104.52, including a £350 fine, £719.52 in costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “We are committed to stamping out illegal and unwelcome behaviour such as fly-tipping. These prosecutions were brought after the businesses had been given extensive advice on how to properly dispose of their waste and warned of the penalties of not doing so. Our notices were blatantly ignored by members of staff who were caught on CCTV dumping rubbish onto the pavement.

“Both individuals and businesses have a duty to dispose of waste responsibly to help keep our streets clean and those who don’t risk hefty penalties.”
