An Ealing woman has launched a campaign to try and bring greater awareness about epilepsy to the UK.

Michelle Rice, herself a sufferer, says even though it started when she was very young  she wasn't diagnosed until she was 16. As one of 6 children her condition proved stressful for both herself, siblings and her parents.

Four years ago she moved into supported living accommodation for people with epilepsy in Ealing which she says has turned her life around.

''I really noticed how severe this condition can get, some people with epilepsy are unable to do anything for themselves, and so I realised how lucky I am and stopped feeling sorry for myself.''

Michelle decided to try and raise greater awareness of the condition and highlights that it's not just about seizures.

'' I went to parliament a couple of years ago and gave my opinion about memory loss, it’s not all about the seizures, it’s so much more than that, the results of the seizures can and do include – memory loss, anxiety, depression, the list is endless, these three have affected me. is hoping that the UK will follow the US and have a whole month dedicated to this condition.''

She is hoping the UK will adopt Epilepsy Awareness Month, because she believes it wil help other people begin to understand the condition a bit more and charities would be able to fundraise for longer.

She has set up a petition and is urging everyone to support.
