Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell backs Virendra Sharma
Campaigning is underway in Ealing for December's General election. John McDonnell, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, launched Virendra Sharma's campaign for Ealing Southall following his formal adoption as the Labour Party candidate. Mr Sharma was first elected as a Labour MP in 2007 at a by election, and served for more than 25 years as a councillor in Ealing before that. He worked as the BAME Officer for the Labour Party at the 1987 and 1992 General Elections and is seeking re-election on 12th December as the MP for Ealing Southall, having been elected in 2007, 2010, 2015 and 2017. Other candidates for Ealing Southall are: Tom Bennett (Conservative) Tom Bennett is a councillor representing the ward of Redcliffe on the Kensington and Chelsea council. He is a management consultant and company director. Tariq Mahmood is an NHS consultant. His campaign objectives include knife crime, housing and pollution. He was part of a scrutiny review panel for knife crime and youth engagement until May this year. Darren Moore (Green Party) Darren Moore is a trained Earth scientist and a supporter of the London National Park City Initiative. He is also an environmental campaigner and helps run a soup kitchen every six weeks. Peter Ward ( Renew) Renew is fielding more than 50 candidates on a platform of political reform, environmental protection and tackling inequality. Peter Ward is a barrister and property developer. He stood as Green candidate for Ealing Southall in the last election. Any candidates wishing to stand in the election must have submitted their nomination papers by 4pm on November 14.
