Brisk Activity Reported at Ealing Polling Stations
Fine weather expected to boost turnout in the borough
Results are expected to be announced in the early hours of Friday

The early indications this polling day (Thursday 5 May) are that turnout by voters in Ealing is relatively high.
Those present at a number of polling stations in the area report that fine weather has meant that there have even been queues forming at some stations which is unusual in the middle of the morning.
The Borough of Ealing is not expected to change hands and polls conducted during the campaign have indicated that there may be an increase in the number of seats that the Labour Party control on the council.
Many of the wards likely to be most hotly contested in this election are in the Ealing area and include Ealing Common, Ealing Broadway, Northfield and Hanger Hill all of which elected opposition candidates in the 2018 election.
Labour are hoping that polls showing their vote has increased by around 5% since the last local elections will be translated into more seats including the remaining ones they do not hold in these wards.
The Conservatives, under the leadership of Gregory Stafford, are hoping to avoid the loss of the 8 seats they currently hold across the four wards. They claim that, despite the increasingly negative view nationally of Boris Johnson’s government due to issues like Partygate, the cost of living crisis and increased cost and inconvenience due to Brexit, local issues such as Streetspace policies and the proliferation of tall buildings across the area will mean they can buck the national trend.
Analysis done by Conrad Martinez Lambert, a Political Science and International Relations student has been published on his Pollcat site and this suggests that the Tories could lose four of their councillors with the Liberal Democrats losing one.
Electoral Calculus have not published their predictions for individual wards in this election but an analysis done in March suggested that all four wards with sitting opposition councillors in the Ealing area would have voted Labour in a General Election.
The Liberal Democrats are meanwhile hopeful that they can establish themselves as the main opposition party. They are confident of holding onto their seats in Southfield ward in the east of the borough but have put a great deal of effort into contesting Hanger Hill ward.
The results of the election in Ealing are currently expected to be announced at around 4am on Friday 6 May.
