Local Conservative Councillor Picked To Fight Key Ealing Seat

Joy Morrissey selected for Ealing Central and Acton

Local Ealing Hanger Hill Councillor, Joy Morrissey, has been picked by the Conservatives to fight the key seat of Ealing Central and Acton in the forthcoming snap election.

She defeated Greg Smith who is leader of the Conservative oppostion on Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Originally from America, she has lived in Ealing for eight years, and lives in the borough with husband and young daughter and worked for the think tank the Centre for Social Justice. 

She came to London to take a masters degree at London School of Economics, where she became the first post-graduate in 30 years to be elected by the entire LSE Student body to the LSE Court of Governors, and served alongside Howard Davis, Cheri Blair and Peter Sutherland.

She has wide experience in humanitarian work and speaks Chinese & Albanian. Joy worked on the South Acton Estate and was the first Conservative elected by the residents to the Acton Vale Estate Management committee.

She is also shadow portfolio holder for health and adult social service, as well as being a Parliamentary staffer for MP Will Quince.

She says '' Ealing is the Queen of The Suburbs and as I know from my own personal experience as a mother, Ealing is a wonderful place to raise a family.
 
My priorities will be to protect Ealing’s green spaces and architectural heritage, fight to secure more affordable housing for working families and young professionals, increase the number of secondary school places, ensure local people can continue to access good NHS services and for us to be tougher on crime and anti-social behaviour.''

The Ealing Central and Acton seat will be hotly contested having swung to Labour in the last election with Rupa Huq taking the seat from Conservative, Angie Bray, with a majority of 274.

The Green Party has already declared they will not be fielding a candidate.

Jon Ball will be standing for the Liberal Democrats.
