There's been widespread praise for the hundreds of volunteers who helped out at Ealing Half Marathon.

Around 700 men, women and children all got involved from the early morning until close of play on Sunday ( 29th September).

Many people are needed to make the day the success it is and a variety of jobs have to be done from collecting bags at the start of the day, marshalling on the roads, handing out water and of course distributing the much welcomed medals at the finish point.

Runners and supporters all acknowledged the great support from the many who had given up their day of rest to make Ealing the welcoming place it has become known for.

Gary Malcolm was at the St Johns Church water station ensuring that the thousands of runners had access to water by handing bottles to those who needed them during the race.

The Lib Dem Councillor said:“It was very inspiring to see the runners going past and cheering them on. I recognised many friends running and I hope we helped to motivate them to get to the end of the long run. ''

The volunteers are a vital part of the race day and many runners thanked those handing out water and offering much needed words of encouragement as they sped past.

Councillor Malcolm and all the volunteers all get a medal of recognition for their work and now qualify for a free place for the 2020 Ealing Half Marathon.

Such is the upbeat mood left over from race that Cllr Malcolm is going to lace up his trainers and participate with the runners next year.

If you want to get involved booking has opened for next year - or if you want to enjoy the #ealingfeeling (without doing the running) find out all about volunteering here.
