The Ealing Family and Mini Mile has sold out for the fifth year running with its highest number of entrants ever.

Sponsored for the second year by St Augustine's Priory it has enjoyed a huge surge in popularity following its move last year to the day before the Ealing Half Marathon.

The Mini Mile and the Family Mile races will take place on Saturday 29th September and are set to inspire hundreds of young runners to get active and be part of a big weekend of sport in the West London borough.

This will be the second year that the Ealing Mini Mile takes place the day before the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon. It follows an extremely successful event in 2017 that saw 1,200 youngsters take part in a series of Mini Mile races, started by TV presenter Ben Shephard on the Saturday afternoon, kicking off race weekend in true style.

This year sees the introduction of the new Family Mile is for children aged five or under to take part in their own separate race along with an adult and a total of 400 places were snapped up. The Family Mile is an exciting new addition to race weekend and proved to be popular with siblings of older children entering the Mini Mile as well as with all families wanting to enjoy a big community event together.

The Ealing Mini Mile was first held in 2013 and has become a much-loved part of the Ealing Half Marathon. It sees runners cover a one-mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park, with plenty of support from family and friends who come out to cheer on the youngsters. The race sells out faster each year, with 400 places snapped in under 24 hours in 2016, and 1,200 in record time in 2017.

Local independent girls’ school St Augustine’s Priory are once again the main sponsor for the 2018 Ealing Family and Mini Mile, in addition to fielding 50+ pupils in the event as well. The girls will all be running in school kit, providing an eye-catching sea of blue t-shirts among the traditional green of the Ealing Half.

The Ealing Mini Mile will take place on the afternoon of the Saturday and children will be split into different age categories. Prizes are awarded to the winner of each age category and every runner gets their finish time.

Each year a different local school is selected to design the Mini Mile t-shirt, and Ealing’s Fielding Primary School has been chosen to create a winning design for 2018.

Current Mini Mile course records are held by Charlotte Buckley from Thames Valley Harriers (00:05:43) and Joseph Barnes (00:05:18).

Race Director Sandra Courtney commented, “The Mini Mile is always a really popular part of race weekend and it is fantastic to see so many young runners of all ages and abilities wanting to get active and take part. The Family Mile is a great chance to open the event up to even more youngsters, which is very much in line with our commitment to make sport and fitness available to all.

“Our thanks go to St Augustine’s Priory for their support as a sponsor once again. We are looking forward to welcoming our biggest ever turn-out of young runners at the 2018 event!”

Mrs Raffray, Head of St Augustine’s Priory, added, “It is a great privilege to support the Ealing Mini Mile for the second year running. This is an important community event for so many people and it is extremely exciting that this year it will be open to its largest number of participants, from pre-school children and their families through to primary school pupils and older teenagers. We are passionate about advocating health and fitness at St Augustine’s and a team of girls from the school will again be entering the Mini Mile. We are very much looking forward to being a part of race day.”

With just over two months until race weekend, the Ealing Half Marathon has almost filled its 7,000 spaces as runners from all over the UK and abroad secure their spot to experience the #EalingFeeling. Now celebrating its seventh anniversary, it promises to be the biggest year yet for the race which was introduced in 2012 as a legacy to London’s Olympic Games.

The Ealing Half Marathon starts and finishes in Lammas Park on Sunday 30th September and features a 13.1-mile route on closed roads around the leafy streets and parks of the West London Borough. It is well known for its huge support and lively atmosphere.
