The Ealing Film Festival may be over and the red carpet has been rolled up but there is still one important award to be handed out.

Nearly seventy short films were screened over six days at three venues across the borough and the judges have decided who the winners were in all but one category – the People’s Choice Award.

Nearly all the festival films are available to watch online and anyone can vote for their favourite on the Ealing Film Festival web site.

The films are available to view until 29 December, and the result of the vote will be announced on New Year’s Day.

“This is the chance for the audience to award their own prize,” says Annemarie Flanagan, one of the festival directors.

“This year we had four hundred films submitted from forty different countries around the world. An increasing number of entries are coming from filmmakers living in the Ealing area.

“Our judges are award-winning professionals with years of experience in the film industry. But we think it is important for the wider public to have their say.”

The competition this year was so intense that the top prize for Best Film was shared by two films. Little Turtle was directed by Mingyang Li from China, and Candlelight was directed by Scott Newton from Belfast.

The Homegrown Award for the best locally made film was won by Jalebi Nights, directed by Ganesh Sharma, a former student of MetFilm School who lives in Hounslow.

This year, the festival was held in three venues - Ealing Project, ActOne Cinema, and Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery.

Among those who visited to show their support was the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Hitesh Tailor, Ealing Council’s Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities, Councillor Polly Knewstub, and local MP Rupa Huq.
