Organisers of a new Ealing Film Festival  have announced the overall winner will receive £500 and a weekend stay in Ealing.

Other cash prizes will be awarded to different genre winners too.

Due to the current climate this first Film Festival will be managed online with further information to be found on the website and entries through the recognised Film Freeway portal.

It's been set up by a group of residents, aiming to provide an outlet for new and up-and-coming filmmakers from the borough, throughout London, the UK and globally. Local MPs have given their support saying it's exactly the positive event needed in this difficult year.

There are a number of genre categories for Short film submissions (15 minutes or less) as well as additional points of entry for students, smartphone films and a special ''Homegrown'' section - for Ealing residents or for any that feature Ealing in the film.  Entries are already coming in from Europe and as far afield as Thailand, the USA and Australia.

Judges will include Ealing talent; Bafta award winning documentary maker, Jezza Neumann, Scriptwriter and Film Critic Mark Eccleston and Director Coky Giedroyc

Alan Granley, one of the Festival Organisers said, '' We're delighted to be getting local support and really pleased to be able to award some cash prizes as well as Ealing Film Festival laurels to finalists and winners. There is such an incredible amount of talent out there and movies are coming from far and wide. Would love to see a few more comedy ones though, I know there's not a lot to laugh about this year, but it's something we're all in need of, so if you've a fun film, send it! Thanks are extended to our top class judges, who are looking forward to viewing the entries."

The deadline for film to be submitted is 2 December with winners to be announced at the end of December.

Covid allowing, films will be shown at both the House of Commons, courtesy of MP Rupa Huq, and (once it opens) at the Acton Arts Centre. There are plans to screen the movies online too.

Any other businesses that can sponsor are being urged to contact info@ealingfilmfestival.com.
