Ealing schoolchildren had a bash at being rock stars for the day when the former drummer of Status Quo paid a visit.

Jeff Rich, has played with various bands including Def Leppard and the Climax Blues Band and worked with rockers Status Quo for 15 years.

When he left the group in 2000 he began touring schools across the UK teaching percussion.

Last week he stopped off at Hathaway Primary School in W13 and the youngsters were thrilled to enjoy a music lesson with a difference.

Head teacher Patricia Yardley said:

'' He came into school and spoke to the children about how he started learning the drums, he talked about the different sorts of drums and children were given the opportunity to play them. The children thought it was fantastic that they were given the opportunity to meet someone so famous.'''

Mr Rich enjoyed his visit too and was very impressed with the children. He wrote to the school:

'' As you know, I have visited thousands of schools all over the U.K and the whole experience at your school will be one that I will remember for a long time.

I would say that the behaviour was in the top 5% of all the schools that I have visited.

The children were very well-behaved and they were a credit to the school. I would also like to thank your staff for making my technician and I very welcome.''

The drummer has donated a signed autograph and signed drumsticks which will be auctioned off at Hathaway School Fair on Saturday 13th June.
