The union representing teachers at Dormer Wells High School in Ealing say they are 'resolute' in their fight against academy plans and have announced another day of industrial action.

Last week teachers took 3 days of strike action against the school's academy plans. They have now called a further one strike day for Thurs 13th July which will make a total of 7 strike days.

The NUT say that the teachers are not striking for more money or better conditions, but for the students and claim the Governments own data proves that academy status does not improve grades. Other concerns raised include for students with special educational (SEN) which the union say are less well supported in academies - Academies often have far less SEN students compared to local authority schools.

They have collected over 100 signatures from parents supporting the teachers and say parents want to have their say to decide the future of their child's school.

Previously in a letter to parents, Headteacher, Roisin Walsh said she believed the action was 'highly regrettable and completely unnecessary'.

She has written: '' The Governing Body has not made a final decision, it is exploring what forming a multi-academy trust would mean..The NUT has been kept informed of the Governing Body programme, and is aware that a final decision is not expected to be taken until the end of 2017 following consultation with stakeholders.''

A spokesperson from the school said: '' The school has not formally been advised that further strike action has been identified.  If that is the case, it is highly regrettable and unnecessary, and the school will focus on actions that will incur the least disruption for the students.''

Meanwhile Drayton Green Primary School has also been subject to strike action this week, again over academy proposals.

A petition has been set up urging the Governing Body hold a consultation with parents to clarify the situation.
