A musical game devised by organisers of the Ealing Autumn Festival has been chosen to take part in a major international event

The Digital MozArt will be presented at the International MozFest 2016, which is taking place at Ravensbourne, in north Greenwich, from October 29-30.

The game was created as a 21st century digital update to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s clever dice throwing game to compose a rare piece of music in the 18th century. It was selected to take part by Arts Award, running the Digital and Arts Culture Section at the event.

MozFest (Mozilla Festival) is an annual celebration of the open internet movement, when passionate technologists, educators and makers come together to explore the future of the open web. More than 1,500 people from 50 different countries will be attending.

Visitors to the recent open days at Northfields Leisure Library, as part of the festival’s touring Truth and Reconciliation painting exhibition, had a chance to try their hands at working out The Digital MozArt.

Festival artistic director Gillian Spragg said: “Coding, understanding music and creating software are what The Digital MozArt is all about.

“I got interested in the MozFest as I thought initially it was some sort of celebration for the composer Mozart, how wrong I was. It has offered a unique way to bring Mozilla and Mozart, digital and music skills, together and it is a great honour for us to be invited.”

The festival is looking for young volunteers with an interest in computer coding and music to help out in preparation for the event, and in return they will receive free tickets to MozFest.

* Pitshanger Library is the next stop for the festival’s exhibition, which is touring libraries across the borough this year, with the paintings on display until September 29.

An open day is being held on Saturday, September 24, (2-4pm) when visitors will have the chance to contribute to the public collage, select names for the paintings and there will be readings of the Roald Dahl play Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf for children.
