Residents concerned over lack of replacement tree planting
Ealing Council is holding another consultation on Dean Gardens Park about a range of changes that are planned for the open space in West Ealing Local residents say a previous scheme which was part of the Live West Ealing to improve the local park in 2019 ended with over 30 mature trees being cut down and shrubs removed with the park in a worse state than it was previously. TfL funding for the park was withdrawn following the Covid-19 outbreak and the project was never fully completed. The council now says that during lockdown more local people have been using the park, which has resulted in increased litter and greater wear and tear of the play area, the outdoor gym equipment and the lawns. Funding is available for a smaller range of improvements that the council can carry out in 2021-22. These include new children’s play equipment, changes to the outdoor exercise equipment, realigning the cycle route and creating a small community gardening area. Concerns have been expressed that the new plan has minimal funding and will not provide replacement trees for those lost previously or new lighting to the park. You can participate in the consultation by clicking here. It closes on 30 August 2021.
