In Memory of David Eales

500km ride from London to Amsterdam

David Eales - memorial ride to Amsterdam

A group of cycling friends will be taking on a 5-day, 500km challenge in memory of Ealing's cycling man David Eales who passed away after a short illness on August 23rd.

London Cycling Campaign run successful fundraising rides every year and had started organising the London to Amsterdam trip but cancelled after not getting enough numbers to ensure they could offset the costs.

Whilst the 'offical' ride was cancelled many who'd signed up decided to go ahead and do it anyway. David was one of the group and was thinking of taking his recumbent tricycle.

Friend Nick Moffitt says: ''He was incredibly motivating as always, simply because he encouraged us not to over-plan and he helped me focus on the parts we needed to organise properly.''

David died in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after contracting a very rare disease SJS/TEN.

Now the trip will go ahead in David's memory.

It will be 500km over 5 days with over half  the cyclists riding on heavy Dutch-style upright bicycles.

They'll be setting off from Parliament Square around dawn on Tuesday, 13 September and aim to arrive in Amsterdam on Saturday 17 September.
