Work on Ealing Broadway station as part of the Crossrail programme is due to get underway from the start of September.

The project, which is being carried out by Network Rail, will transform the station, delivering a new station façade, a ticket hall twice the size of the existing one and a long, curved canopy running the length of the forecourt.

Additional improvements will include four new lifts to provide step free access to every platform and platform extensions to accommodate the new 200m long Crossrail trains. The station will continue to act as an interchange with the District and Central lines on London Underground.

Network Rail will take possession of the retail units at the front of station next month and begin to set up a temporary worksite on a section of Haven Green. The first works at the station will be to lay the foundations for a new emergency exit bridge at the far end of the platforms. The main work to the station building is scheduled to begin in summer 2016.

A series of measures will be implemented to try to ensure that disruption to local people, businesses and road users is kept to a minimum. Acoustic barriers will be used to limit the impact of any noise and Network Rail say that levels of noise and dust will be consistently monitored to make sure they fall within acceptable limits. There should be deliveries to site will take place during morning and evening rush hours and it has been promised that residents and businesses will receive advance notification letters about work which will have any significant impacts on them. A commitment has been made to fully reinstate Haven Green once the work is complete.

An information event for local people will be held on Wednesday 19 August between 3pm and 7pm at Ealing Broadway station.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “. I encourage everyone who lives near Ealing Broadway station or uses it as part of their daily commute to take this opportunity to find out more about the plans for the station while the improvement works are underway.”

Matthew Steele, Programme Director for Crossrail at Network Rail, said: “We understand the need to keep disruption for local people to an absolute minimum while we are working in Ealing Broadway. We will put in place a range of measures to limit any impact on residents, businesses and passengers and will do everything we can to provide them with early warning of work that may affect them.

“In particular we recognise the importance of Haven Green to local people. We have taken as small an area as possible for our worksite and will restore the site to its former condition once our work has finished.”

From the end of 2017, the station will be run by Transport for London as part of London’s integrated transport network. When Crossrail fully opens in 2019, up to ten Crossrail trains an hour in each direction will serve Ealing Broadway station.
