A cricket coach with a club in Southall has been given a national award for coaching by the England Cricket Board (ECB).

Rod Croucher, the Chair of the Middlesex Coaches Association, described Tanvir Ahamed as ‘Mr Cricket’ for his work over the last seven years in which he has contributed hugely to the development of the London Tigers Club.

As well as his coaching responsibilities, training both youth players and adults, and playing for the team, he helps out with a wide range of tasks at the club which is what prompted recognition from the ECB.

Last year, Tanvir had been presented with a Middlesex coaching award which meant he was eligible to be considered for the national award.

The award is presented annually to volunteers within the game who have excelled in their delivery of coaching across the county within the recreational game.

Afterwards Rod Croucher said, “Tanvir is an individual. He bubbles with enthusiasm and energy. Almost unstoppable. If you look at the breadth of what he has done, it’s not just across coaching a number of age groups, but you then look for those special qualities. He’s always helping, he helps with pitches, he helps with something else, he does individual one to one of his own volition not necessarily to earn money.”

Tanvir thanked the local community, his club London Tigers and the Middlesex County Board. He says when he got on the stage to receive his ward, “I was remembered those days, those people who helped me. Without those people’s help I wouldn’t be there.”

He said his ambition going forward was to develop London Tigers further and provide support to Middlesex County.

There were four national coaching awards given out and two of them went to coaches based in Middlesex with John Jarvis also getting recognition.
