Infection rates on the increase again in some local neighbourhoods
Covid-19 infection rates are rising in a few neighbourhoods in Ealing borough. The highest rate I can find is Cuckoo Park, Hanwell at 194.4/100,000 people. The lowest recorded rate is Ealing Broadway West at 45. The overall rate for Ealing falls regularly on a weekly and often on a daily basis. It’s currently at 126.1. Sadly it’s currently second only to Hounslow (127.1) as the worst in London. 29 of the 32 London boroughs now have a seven-day Covid-19 infection rate of below 100. As of 24 February, London’s overall rate was 70.9. Nationally the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK has fallen by almost 40% in a week and deaths have declined by a third. The latest data on Covid-19 patient hospitalisation is that it declined by 22% on the previous week. More NHS Mass Testing in Ealing New areas in which testing for the South African variant will take place are in Acton, Greenford and Southall. There are seven test centres in Acton, Ealing centre (2), Greenford, Northolt, Southall and West Ealing. More details on the centres and how to book here. Over 1, 750 Residents Have Emailed Elthorne and Northfields Councillors About LTN Commitments Made in 2020 At the beginning of September 2020 Elthorne and Northfield Councillors made public commitments about Covid-19 response Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs). They said if after six months most residents wanted to LTNs removed, then they would support this. All the evidence shows the majority of residents are in favour of removing the LTNs. However no such public commitments has been forthcoming from the Labour Councillors. Residents are now asking for the Councillors to honour their commitments or resign. The Labour Councillors have replied. They say the six month period has been extended to 12 months. They clearly admit that their six month commitment has not been honoured. Ealing Council is Not Listening to its Residents Ealing’s video news channel latest offering features three aspects of Council plans which are upsetting residents: + The planned destruction of Perceval House and the erection of a 26 storey residential tower on the site + Low Traffic Neighbourhoods – a Covid-19 response so hated by 1,000s of residents + The planned closure of the Acton Refuse and Recycling Centre. More Construction Delays at the New Ealing Broadway Crossrail/Elizabeth Line Station The new delay is for two months. Shortage of materials and electrical power problems are apparently to blame. The latest prediction for when passengers might get to use the new station is May 2021. There are still no details on the public realm outside the station (eg where you can drop off and pick up your loved ones). These new details were promised by Ealing Council for February 2021. Yet another unmet Council commitment. The First ‘Amazon Go’ Store in Britain is to Open in Ealing Broadway Cash will not be able to be used in the shop. Customers must download the ‘Amazon Go’ app onto their mobile phones before entering the store. Food picked off the shelves will be added to the customer’s virtual shopping basket. The customer will be automatically charged as he/she leaves the store. It’s understood that Amazon will use Morrison’s as its ‘Amazon Fresh’ delivery service. Apparently 30 Amazon Go stores are planned across Britain. There are some 25 Amazon Go stores operating in the US. Eric Leach eric.alan.leach@gmail.com
