Comment on this story on the well.

According to Ealing Council’s web site we have 14 libraries in Ealing. However in 2019 the Council announced it proposed to close seven of its libraries. Five of these libraries found ‘viable partners’ to run them as Community Managed Libraries (CMLs). Although CML operators were given the green light to proceed in December 2019 I’ve yet to hear of any leases with Ealing Council being signed. To be fair Covid-19 has badly affected these volunteer driven CML initiatives.

Ealing Covid-19 Infection Rate Third Worst in London But Neighbourhood Rates are Mostly Falling

The latest figures have Ealing with the third highest infection rate in London, behind Hounslow and Hillingdon. Ealing’s rate has been dropping regularly over previous days. It currently stands at 133.4/100,000 people. Infection rates are generally falling in Ealing neighbourhoods. Southall Green is the highest I can find at 155. However a month ago it was 1,437.5! Northolt West currently has the lowest rate at 59.8.

Covid-19 Vaccination and Testing in Ealing

On 19 February 2021 NHS England revealed that 63,634 vaccinations had been administered in Ealing. Ealing is second only to Harrow for delivering the most vaccinations in London. However, the vaccination centre at St John’s Church in West Ealing has spare capacity. For those 65+ year olds who have not had jabs, type in W13 9LL when booking on the national system and not doubt your jab will be scheduled there. If people have no computer or smartphone access they can call the Mattock Lane Pharmacy on 020 8567 9153 and they will book your jab at the church.

Dean Gardens test centre and door-to-door testing in West Ealing and Hanwell resulted in over 9,000 people being tested for the Covid-19 South African variant. We await to discover how many Covid-19 sufferers were discovered and how many South African variant positives there were.

Ealing Council Triggers Severe Weather Emergency Protocol for Rough Sleepers

The protocol comes into operation during periods of severe weather and provides shelter for rough sleepers. Homeless charity St Mungo’s is employed by the Council to provide rough sleeper services. During the Covid-19 pandemic this involves facilitating rough sleepers to self-isolate alone. Anyone concerned about someone sleeping rough should contact: www.streetlink.london

Proposal To Close Acton Re-Use and Re-Cycling Centre

If it were to close, arrangements would be made for Ealing residents to use the Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre in Brent, NW10 7TJ. This closure proposal is part of the Council’s cost cutting measures brought about by the drain on finances due to Covid-19.

How Many Ealing Pubs Might Re-Open on 12 April 2021?

The new rules will allow alcohol consumption outdoors in pubs in some seven weeks time. No doubt those pubs with large ‘covered’ gardens might re-open and give it a go. In West Ealing one thinks of ’The Forester’ and in Hanwell ‘The Fox’.
