More than 12,000 residents of Hanwell, West Ealing Centre and Northfields should learn details this week of 11 Covid-19 Response road blocks to deliver Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) 21. LTN 21 implementation was scheduled by Ealing Council for 24 August 2020. Seven days notice for residents was also promised. So LTN 21 residents should have received their letters today – 17 August. So far (at 3:30pm) only residents in Leighton Road have admitted to receiving letters. Of course businesses on Leighton Road haven’t received letters. So just 14 more roads with upcoming road blocks to deliver letters to…. Ealing Council LTN 21 plan is here. An Exposurebox.com video of the impact of LTN 21 is here (over 700 viewings in just 24 hours): Anti-LTN petition (over 4,300 signatures so far): Implementation of LTN 21 is scheduled for 24 August 2020. 32 New Covid-19 Cases in Ealing 3 August to 9 August 2020 This is according to Public Health England (PHE) and it compares with the 30 new Covid-19 cases in Ealing during the previous week of 27 July to 2 August 2020. According to PHE, there have been 1,668 positive Covid-19 tests in Ealing up to 4 August 2020. As of 11 August 2020 the London boroughs with the highest number of Covid-19 cases were Croydon, Ealing, Bromley and Barnet. There were just three Covid-19 deaths across England on Saturday 15 August 2020 Doors to All Ealing Public Libraries to Be Opened As From 1 September 2020 But you won’t be able to browse the books or use the public computers. Acton Public Swimming Pool Is Open But only to those with Smartphones or access to a computer. Access is denied to those who just turn up to swim. Ealing ‘A’ Level Teenager Launches Legal Action Against Ofqual With Covid-19 closing schools and cancelling exams, it was always going to be controversial assessing ‘A’ Level students’ performance. But who would have thought the Government could have made such a mess of it? Lots of allegations that the algorithm the Government has used has favoured private school pupils over State school pupils. Apparently some pupils who teachers rated highly have been downgraded by the algorithm. On 17 August 2020 ‘The Guardian’ reported that 18 year old Curtis Parfitt-Ford of Ealing has laid down a legal challenge against Ofqual to ‘come up with a fairer system’ in assessing ‘A’ Level attainment. Leigh Day and Foxglove are the hired legal help. Separately the Good Law Project is supporting six other students in a Judicial Review of Ofqual ‘failings’ with legal costs approaching £60,000. Hillingdon Hospital Boss Quits Sarah Tedford, the hospital’s Chief Executive, recently accused her staff at Hillingdon Hospital of spreading Covid-19 which resulted in the partial closure of the hospital’s A&E unit. 70 nurses were initially infected and 16 more tested Covid-19 positive. Ms Telford, who was caught in the hospital not wearing a mask, resigned as the hospital boss on 14 August 2020. The interim boss is apparently Deputy Chief Executive Jason Seez. The Covid-19 incident at the hospital caused a flurry of public bodies to investigate. These bodies, according to press reports, included Public Health England, NHE England, Hillingdon Council and the Care Quality Commission. No doubt the managing NHS Trust (The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and the local commissioning body (NHS Hillingdon Clinical Commissioning Group) must have also needed to investigate. There are strong rumours that Lesley Watts will soon take up a senior role at Hillingdon Hospital. Ms Watts is currently Chief Executive of the NHS Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She is also the Senior Responsible Officer for the NHS North West London (NWL) Sustainability and Transformation Partnership. Finally she is also Acting CEO of something that really doesn’t yet exist! It’s the NHS NWL Integrated Care System (ICS). What a very busy person Ms Watts is! On 1 April 2021, the NHS NWL ICS will commission and manage the supply of all care services in north west London (albeit informally without any statutory legitimacy). 417,000 of the 2.5 million registered patients will be Ealing residents. Top London Cop Explains 43.8% Drop in Punishing Cyclists Ignoring Red Lights, Riding on Pavements and Riding Without Lights This decline occurred during the first six months of 2020. London Detective Superintendent Andy Cox said the priority was ‘…about protecting the cyclist, not targeting the cyclist’. (Source: ‘Sunday Times’ 16 August 2020).
