The Perivale based Hand on Heart (HoH) volunteer group normally distribute essential food packs to the homeless. During the current pandemic they decided to use their existing skill set to take on the 2.6 challenge to help the NHS.

The group is run by husband and wife Afzal and Asifa Pradhan together with their 13 year old daughter, Sara and an army of 100 volunteers.

On 26 April HoH rose to the 2.6 Challenge and distributed 1118 lunch packs to NHS frontline workers. Their target was to ask 26 families to pack 26 lunch packs each, but in the event they had 43 families come forward to take part.

Each lunch pack contained a fresh sandwich, fruit, crisp, snack bar and drink. In addition, 1200 cupcakes were hand made by 10 local bakeries with a message of Thank You to NHS staff.

Children from the 43 families helped assemble the lunch packs using protective gloves. HoH Skippers (drivers) collected the packs from participants homes and delivered to HoH HQ in Perivale. From there, they subsequently delivered the completed lunch packs and cupcakes to five Hospitals in Harefield, Central Middlesex, St Marys, Northwick Park and Watford. The lunch packs were greatly received by all the hospitals.

Afzal Pradhan, from Ealing was awarded a BEM during the Queens 2020 New Year’s honours list. The award has inspired him to further community work with HoH.

Next up, HoH aim to distribute 500 essential packs to homeless in London. Operating from Perivale, HoH will invite 25 families to help assemble items in a drawstring bag and will include Hand Sanitizers, wet wipes, T-shirt, underwear, socks and other essential items. Packs will be distributed during Eid to mark the end of Ramadan. 500 Cupcakes will also be handed out together with Eid cards with messages from parents and children that packed the items.

You can follow HoH on Facebook.
