Family and Colleagues Mourn 'Kind and Gentle' Anna Tomlinson | ||||
Councillor for Hobbayne ward dies after long battle with cancer
Anna Tomlinson, who represented Hobbayne ward on Ealing Council has died. Cllr Tomlinson was first elected in 2018, representing the Labour Party. In her role as councillor she served as Member of the Health and Adult Social Services Standing Scrutiny Panel, Licensing Committee and the Audit Committee in 2018. She was also a Councillor Carer, Mental Health and Dementia Champion, and undertook staff appeals. Councillor Julian Bell, leader of the council said, "Anna was a joy to know, a really kind and gentle woman, and a good friend to all. Anna will be deeply missed by all of us who worked alongside her. She gave her time and experience to this community, which she loved. I know I speak for her close colleagues, particularly Councillor Lewis Cox and Councillor Ray Wall serving in the same ward, that her work made a massive difference to the residents of this borough. She was a great champion of carers, of Ealing’s Polish community of which she was a part, and of sustainable transport, being a proud owner of an electric car. "The past year has been a difficult one for her. Some of you will remember Councillor Tomlinson making a very moving speech about her experience of living with cancer at full council in February this year, where she gave fulsome praise to the care she had received from the NHS locally. “I spoke to Anna a couple of times during the past few months that she spent shielding because of her ongoing cancer treatment, and in her typically selfless and positive way, she continued to think of how she could help and support others in her community during this difficult time. I know how much she valued the work of the Ealing staff and volunteers running the Ealing Together support scheme which she herself benefitted from. “I know her close friends and family will be heartbroken at her passing. On behalf of all councillors and council officers, our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time." Cllr Tomlinson’s death will mean that a by-election will need to take place in Hobbayne ward. Under legislation passed in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, all elections are currently postponed, so this will not take place until 6 May 2021, subject to receipt of the statutory paperwork requesting a by-election prior to that date.
