A plaque honouring Kirsty MacColl has been unveiled by the Ealing Civic Society outside 48 Mount Park Road.

The singer-songwriter spent the last fifteen years of her life there before her untimely death in Mexico in 2000. The house has a studio which was used to record her last album.

The plaque was unveiled by Kirsty’s son Louis Lillywhite in front of the house owners Darren and Sharon Size, friends, neighbours and members of the Society’s Executive.

The unveiling comes just as a new 8 CD box set of Kirsty’s music entitled See That Girl 1979-2000 was released.

Although she was best known for her vocals in the Pogue’s Christmas song, Fairy Tale of New York, her career dated back to 1979 when she released They Don’t Know, which was later covered by Tracy Ullman.

The daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl had several hits in the 1980s and 1990s, including "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis" and cover versions of Billy Bragg's "A New England".

She later was a backing vocalist for a number of bands including The Rolling Stones and The Smiths.

The complete list of all the society’s plaques includes singer Dusty Springfield, the session musician Nicky Hopkins and the broadcaster and performer Michael Flanders.
