Residents in Hanwell are campaigning to raise awareness about speeding drivers on their road.

The Church Road locals have lobbied councillors and 188 people signed a petition presented before a full council meeting asking for the introduction of a 20 mph speed limit and other traffic calming measures.

Concerns include drivers using the narrow road as as a ‘Rat Run’, to avoid traffic lights at the cross roads with Greenford Avenue.  Locals say speeding drivers regularly swerve onto the pavement to avoid oncoming traffic, and several residents have reported narrowly escaped injury, while on the pavement.

Spokesperson Ros Little says residents are calling for '' A clearly signed 20mph speed limit in the residential section of Church Road, Speed indication displays in both directions to warn drivers how fast they are driving, raised kerbs to deter vehicles mounting the pavement and to protect pedestrians.''

The 3 Hobbayne Ward Councillors are supporting the petition and are commissioning a speed survey, financed by ward funds.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, (cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure) has promised that a speed survey will take place in January, over a 7 day period.
