Cancer Research UK nurses are coming to Ealing to help the public recognise possible signs and symptoms of cancer, and to help people reduce their risk by leading a healthy lifestyle.

A Cancer Research UK Health Stand will be at Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre on 5 and 12 August outside Tesco and will be running from 12-4pm.

The charity’s nurses can provide information about how to help spot cancer earlier – when it is more likely to be treated successfully - and encourage people to go to their GP with any health concerns.

Visitors to the health stand can learn about healthy eating and take home a portion plate which shows the recommended amounts of salad or vegetables, protein and carbohydrates to try to eat each meal time.

They can also look at props including a tar jar which shows the build-up of tar from smoking 10 cigarettes a day for a year or handle fat lump props which show what 1lb looks like and can be an incentive to lose a few pounds.

Catherine Gunnewicht, Cancer Research UK Cancer Awareness Nurse in London, said: “Experts estimate around 4 in 10 cases of cancer could be prevented each year in the UK.

“We are looking forward to talking to lots of people from Ealing about the steps they can take to help reduce their risk of cancer through changes like stopping smoking, reducing alcohol intake and keeping a healthy weight.”
