Volunteers are sought to help clean Ealing's waterways.

Canal & River Trust is inviting residents to enjoy some time by the water whilst helping to look after the Grand Union Canal.

The first meeting will be on the 17 October from 10am to 3:30pm alongside lock 97, which is at the end of Green Lane, W7 2PH. Further Towpath Taskforce events are planned for the 3 and 21 November.  Tea and coffee will be provided but bring a lunch and cold drinks.

Volunteers will tackle a variety of tasks, including helping to look after the canal’s historic locks, keeping the towpath clear of overgrowing vegetation and making sure the waterside environment is a great place for residents, visitors and wildlife.

Deborah Vidler, volunteer development coordinator at Canal & River Trust, said: “The canal in Ealing is really beautiful to visit all year round and recent research shows that spending time next to water is good for you physical and mental health.

“Volunteering on your local canal is a fantastic way to spend some time outdoors and support your community, and it also gives you the chance to learn new skills and make new friends, so come along and get involved!”

There is no need to book – just turn up. All tools and equipment are provided at each session. Volunteers should wear sensible shoes and dress according to the weather.
