Volunteers get stuck in and collect 50 bags of rubbish
Residents living near Hanwell's Bunny Park have taken part in a major Spring Clean using conventional methods and more unusual. 'Plogging' - Pick-up Litter Jogging’ is catching on with local runners and several turned out at Brent Lodge Park on Sunday. All you need to join in this Scandanavian hobby is your running gear, a bag for litter, and ideally a pair of gloves to protect your hands. A total of 50 big bags of rubbish were collected by alll the volunteers with an average weight of 5 kilos per bag, plus a few large items like a shopping trolley, 3 suitcases and a fire grate. Organiser Keith Freegard who set up the Facebook group ‘LAGER Can’, said:
It would appear, perhaps not surprisingly, aluminium drink (mostly beer!) cans are the most frequently littered item, followed by plastic bottles, plastic bags, glass bottles and then general food packaging waste.
If you would like to get involved with the next litter pick-up event visit facebook page LAGER can. 27th March 2018
